REMS Shelter Operations
This
module is designed to assist Shelter Operator in their tasking, as well as coordinating
their efforts with those of State, County and Local Emergency Managers as
efficiently as possible.
Shelter Capacity/Capability
Reporting
It starts
with coordinating the movement of Evacuees to the most appropriate Shelter
possible. Shelter Operators may use
REMS on either a laptop or a mobile computer to constantly update their
capacity and capabilities during the critical phase when Evacuees are
in-transit. This allows the Bus
Dispatcher to assign evacuation buses to the most appropriate shelter
location, based on the medical category of the bus passengers.
Updating the Locator System
When
buses arrive, Shelter Operators may use REMS on either a State supplied
Windows Mobile computer or on their own SmartPhone
to update each Evacuee’s location in the REMS database.
Shelter Re-Supply
When the
Shelter needs to be re-supplied, Operator may use the REMS web portal, or a mobile
computer or a SmartPhone to requisition
supplies. The requisition is
automatically routed to the Logistics Dispatcher, where a resupply truck is
assigned to make the delivery.

Sex Offender Screening
The REMS
web portal provides facial recognition screening capabilities. In States where the sex offender database
of photos has been pre-processed into the REMS photo database, Shelters may
use this feature for assigning Evacuees to housing units and during Volunteer
registration. The use of this feature
requires a legal sign-off by the State.
Lost Child Identification
In those
States where Project MyKids has provided school pre-enrollment, unaccompanied
children may be identified via the facial recognition through the REMS web
portal. This is possible when the photo
from the child’s student ID card has been processed into the REMS photo database.
This is done automatically for those schools
participating in Project MyKids.
Shelter Events
Various
events, such as the distribution of goods or services, around the Shelter may
be tracked to insure that each Evacuee receives exactly the quantity
required. This is an extremely flexible
function in that each Shelter may define anything as an Event. Queries and reports are then available to
determine who received what, and when.
Volunteer Registration and
Requests
REMS provides the ability to Register Volunteers for duties around the
Shelter and in the local area. Information
entered may be automatically shared with specific NGOs as desired though the
REMS web portal. This provides an
efficient way to coordinate requests for Shelters to work with volunteers and
NGOs.
