Web Browser Interface
All
Retriever Software Applications are capable of operating in either client-server
or web-browser mode, with the exception of Dispatching applications, and they
too will eventually be supported in web-browser mode.
Advantages
Consumer SmartPhones (i.e. iPhones) are less expensive than rugged
Windows Mobile devices, and yet capable of performing many REMS functions. They may be combined with Bluetooth bar
code scanners and RFID readers to provide a low cost way to expand the
Emergency Workforce. In areas where
wireless network coverage is reliable (i.e. Shelters), REMS applications may
be run in web-browser mode on a combination of laptops and SmartPhones, without sacrificing much in the way in
capabilities.

Not for Mission-Critical Tasking
Operating
mission-critical components in web-browser mode is not recommended. There is no store-and-forward capability
while in browser mode.
Supported SmartPhones
The
iPhone will be supported starting with version 3.0. Contact your AT&T Sales Representative
for availability. A Bluetooth bar code
scanner and a palm-sized Bluetooth RFID reader are scheduled to be available
as peripherals when version 3.0 is released.
Window
Mobile SmartPhones must have version 6.1.4 or
higher. Check with your Carrier for
availability. They too will have
support for both the Bluetooth scanner and reader.
